Thanks in no small part to his efforts the Irish province, who were RaboDirect PRO12 finalists last year, are keeping pace in the play-off hunt.
And his trusty boot is also benefitting Ireland as Jackson nailed three penalties as well as three conversions in the 40-9 rout of Samoa.
It was the 21-year-old's fourth start in an emerald green shirt and in directing around RaboDirect PRO12 stalwarts such as Paul O'Connell and Brian O'Driscoll, Schmidt believes Jackson's performance belied his years.
"I would have to take my hat off to Paddy Jackson," he said. "I think he has had to do it pretty tough at times - being thrown in as a very young man - and having to direct some very impressive men around the park.
"He said during the week about telling Paul O'Connell about where he needs to be and feeling a bit intimidated by that himself. You know, I feel the same intimidation too."
