John Feehan, Chief Executive of Celtic Rugby, today announced that the RaboDirect PRO12 had concluded a TV rights agreement with Italian terrestrial TV broadcaster Mediaset to show all Italian home RaboDirect PRO12 games for both Italian PRO12 teams, Benetton Treviso and Zebre on channel Italia 2.
The agreement for the season 2013/2014 will also see many away games of the two Italian clubs screened to a growing Italian rugby TV audience.
Speaking in Milan, John Feehan said that "TV audiences have grown year on year for the RaboDirect PRO12 with over 12.6 million viewers last season, up 4.47% on the previous year. We are delighted to have Mediaset join our family of free to air TV broadcasters. The growing Italian rugby community will be delighted to see both their professional teams on a regular basis."
The RaboDirect PRO12 already have broadcast partnerships with BBC Alba, BBC Cymru Wales, BBC SPORT NI, RTE Sport, S4C and TG4 in Ireland, Scotland & Wales.
Gareth Davies' flawless kicking display ensured Cardiff Blues emerged with something to show for their efforts in a bruising clash with Benetton Treviso as the fly-half's late penalty sealed a 26-26 draw.
Paddy Jackson proved his kicking isn't his only asset with a hand in a wonderful try, as well as contributing 14 points with his boot, to ensure Ulster kept their play-off aspirations on track with a 19-11 victory away to Zebre.
Ian Keatley was the shining light for Munster after kicking all 18 points as the Irish region lay down the gauntlet to the rest of the RaboDirect PRO12 with an 18-14 victory over Newport Gwent Dragons.
